In 1909  Daniel McAuliffe travelled from Queenstown to New York.

The Ellis Island record shows he arrived, aged 21, on 16 June 1909 with $15 and went to stay with a friend Lizzie Gahan at 363 W42nd St, New York. He was 5ft 7inches Fair hair, blue eyes, born in Abbeyfeale, Co Limerick. The nearest relative was shown as William McAuliffe of Abbeyfeale, his father.

Elizabeth Gahan arrived in New York in June 1907 aged 24 from Abbeyfeale and went to the same address.

Would love to find any relations of Danny.

  • Danny,

How certain are you that his father is William? That 1909 Ellis Island record does not state he is his father...it could be any close relative or friend. I checked the civil records for his birth with William as his father, and did not locate a William. There are a number of other records in the correct time period and place, but the father's names are different.

  • The 1901 Irish census records Lizzie Gahan in Abbeyfeale. Her father is described as an RIC Pensioner. She is described as a dressmaker.

There is a Daniel McAuliffe in Abbeyfeale who is a nephew of the householder.

  • The 1911 Irish census records William McAuliffe (64) living in Abbeyfeale Town with his daughter, Mary (32). He was a grocer, and they were both born in County Kerry.
