Hi, my great grandfather was John Mahoney.  He was born in in Limerick and married a Mary McCarthy or McCarty, and emigrated to Australis.  They were married in a small town named Abington. On 17 September 1855.  So I guess he may have been born around 1830.  Could anyone help me to trace when he was born and where.  I have a copy of the marriage certificate, but it does not have many details.  Thanks for any help you can give me.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I searched on Roots Ireland from 1830-1840 and found one John Mahoney baptismal record in Murroe Boher Abington parish. Transcription below. Since you don't know his parents names, I would treat this record as a lead. Here is a link to the parish register if you want to search further for siblings etc. http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0237

  • If my great grandfather was baptised on 18 Sept 1830' then my great, great grandfather must have been born around 1800.  His name was John Mahoneu or Mahoney and his wife was Mary née Cormack.  How do I find his baptism certificate.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks and God Bless.  Terry Mahoney Melbourne Australia.

  • Hello Terry!

The records for Murroe-Boher/Abington start in 1814 http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0237 Probably too late for your John. I did find two records in Limerick city in 1803 and 1804 which are below. John Mahoney/Mahony was a very common name and unless you know his parents names, it would be difficult to confirm any record you locate.
