  • Hi James, my name is James also and i have relations Moores too from the Boher area of Limerick. My fathers mother was Margaret Moore from the Beary s Cross area of Boher/Caherconlish Co Limerick. She was born 29th may 1894 to Michael Moore and Mary Foley. This Michael Moore was born in 1863 and his father seems to have been Patrick. I have like you found the Moores to be a hard family to trace there does not seem to be many people researching them online compared to the Hayes and Fitzgerald side of my family tree. If you have any more info i d like to hear from you thanks?

  • Hi James

I have had a look at the Murroe Parish records( transcribed from original) and I have located your grgrandfathers baptismal record, on 03 Jan 1839 to a James Moore and Mary Nugent .The Sponsors were Joseph O?Donnell and Mary Duhy .There is no record from of their marriage in Murroe. There is no record of any Nugent Baptisms in Murroe either so it is pretty likely that Mary was from a different parish. Possibly one of the parishes neighbouring Murroe ,like  Caherconlish, Cappamore or Newport

There is a baptismal Record for James Moore(possibly father to Michael b 1839) on 22 Oct 1818 to Michael Moore and Mary Hall. With one sponsor Biddy Moore .This Record is also entered again on 02 Nov 1818 but this time the mothers name is Mary HALE with 2 sponsors Patrick Moore and Biddy Moore.( I believe it to be the same James and was entered twice for some reason ) I believe that these are James? Parents and there must have been some mistake when transcribing from the original ,a mix up with the names.  They also had another child Margaret on 20 Oct 1814 mothers name as Hale with one sponsor Judy Moore and 1 unknown sponsor.

There was the tradition at the time of naming the first son after the fathers?  father , which would be true in this case , if this is your James  he named his son Michael after his father.

I have searched the Griffiths taken 1851,  he is the only James Moore owning land in the parish of Abington at the time . It is possible that this your James , though there are a 1 or 2  other James? in the records having children around this time so may also be one of them .

Did Michael born 1839 leave Murroe or was it a further generation on?

    Hope this helps !

If you have any question please ask!

    Thanks

  • Hi Aine is there any way you could find out the children of Daniel Moore from Sandylane Boher in the Mid 1800s as i m thinking one of his sons may be the Michael Moore from Cloghnadromin (Bearys Cross) living there in the 1901 and 1911 census? Michaels daughter Margaret was my grandmother. Michael was born around 1863. There is also a James Moore in Sandylane around the same time as Daniel and we may be descended from him but going on the name of Michaels children the first son being Daniel i suspect its Daniel.

    regards

    James

  • I  could only find one Daniel having children he was married to Judy Madden and they had one child Baptised in Murroe

    Catherine  b -02 Feb 1826

You mentioned that Michael was born 1863 but I didnt find any Michael born around this time in Murroe however i did find his Childrens baptism in Murrroe

There is a possibility that being so close to caherconlish that some maybe recorded there.
