I recently discovered that my great x5 grandfather was born in Clonbroney. Thomas Harrity was b1772, and at some stage joined the Royal Staff Corps (a sort of forerunner to the Royal Engineers) which took him to England. From 1800-1805 he was at Chatham, Kent, and Chelmsford, Essex. He married Charlotte Ryan in Chelmsford in 1804, and was then posted to Hythe in Kent, where he helped to build the Royal Military Canal - a fortification against Napoleon. In 1809 he fought in the Peninsular War at Coruna, Spain, before coming back to Hythe and settling there after he left the RSC in 1822. His pension record describes him as a labourer, 5ft 5 inches, red hair (!), grey eyes and fair complexion.

I know it's a long shot, but would be delighted to hear if anyone knows anything about Thomas or has heard of a Harrity family from Clonbroney or near by. Thank you.
