As part of the Community Tourism Diaspora Project 2016 and the spirit engendered by the 1916 celebrations, a ‘Tóstal Heritage day’ is being organised for Saturday 15th October 2016 in the Augustinian Abbey, Ballyhaunis.

  • The purpose of the event is to celebrate the everyday life of the people at the turn of the 20th century and acknowledge the localised influences linked to Irish rights and freedoms. The celebratory event will enable local communities and visiting diaspora to immerse themselves in local heritage associated with a changing Ireland while noting the Land League organisations, Home rule activity, Gaelic League, GAA, the Fenian movement and the Great War (1914-1918) as examples only. The event is part of the Community Tourism Diaspora initiative 2016 and is held under the auspices and support of the Brackloon Reunion group. A detailed timetable of events will be confirmed later this week and published accordingly.

  • We are also very interested in attaining stories and any details relative to this time period. Indeed, if you wish, please feel free to come along and dress in the clothes of our ancestors in a changing Ireland in the early 20th century. If you have any memorabilia that you wish to share from this time period, please feel free to advise. If you have Irish Freedom medals, Great War memorabilia, any details relative to emigration or indeed living in Ireland in the early 20th century, please feel free to contact any committee members if you wish to share. We can organise copying of any personal documents and discuss details relative to any valued family memorabilia that you would like to share. Items will be exhibited in the Abbey.

  • If you wish to follow our progress or require any further details on our festive preparations and brochure, you can follow us on our community Facebook page ‘Brackloon Reunion’, and local media in the West of Ireland. Again, you can contact Committee members below or contact us by email at brackloonreunion@hotmail.com.

Thank you for your support.

Kind regards
