Looking for records regarding the birth of my G Grandfather, Patrick (latin:Patricius) James Neary, born sometime in the 1850's in either County Mayo or County Sligo. he often went by Patt Neary. Married Honor “Norah” (latin:Honoria) Beirne in 8/30/1883 in Ballina (Honor was born in 1861 in Ballina- parents were Michael Theodore Beirne (b?-d.1891) and Jane Hope (b.1834-d.1912). Patrick James died in 1942 in San Gabriel, CA and was buried in Victoria, Canada. Honor died April, 1926 in Victoria, Canada. Patrick's parents are listed as Thomas Neary (Nary) and Mary Durkin (Durkan) on the marriage certificate - and it states they are from Kilgarvan Parish. Have been unable to locate/verify any other records for Patrick, his siblings, or his parents (can't find death records/marriage records?). Block Wall. Did locate some pension records for POSSIBLE siblings - Anne (Neary) McAndrew and a William Neary (last known address in Bonniconlon) but records look confused as well. Patrick & Honor's children's names are Michael John "Tony" (B. Scotland), Jane Winnifred (Neary) Quinn (b. Scotland), Mary Frances Clare (Neary) Coleman (b. Scotland), William Charles Osmond (b. London),Patrick Thomas Joseph (b. London), Norah Mabel (b. London), Grace Lillian (b. London), Dorothy Mary Magdalena (Neary) Mellan (b. London), Florence Ellen (b & d. age 3 in London), Brian Francis (b. London). Patrick James worked for the Beirne family “general” store in Ballina until his marriage to Honor, then began work with the Lipton store chains, moving to Scotland, London, then Victoria, Canada (1913), then California. Any help, please??? Hoping to locate information on Patrick’s siblings and parents. Thank you

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

If they were from Kilgarvan parish, baptismal records are not available until 1870. http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0123

I did locate the marriage record for Thomas and Mary in 1848. Check the register to see the actual record.

  • Roger, you are awesome! Can't tell you how many searches I made just to get back to my block wall.

I really appreciate your help on this.

Many thanks from all my Neary clan in California!
