Hi, my name is Jim Hopman.  my great-grandmother was Anne Agnes Coleman, daughter of Michael Coleman and Mary Ruane.  Mary Ruane was the daughter of Thadeus Ruane and Mary Marrey.  I don't have any information on Michael Coleman other than his father's name might have been Patrick. I know they were members of St. Colman Church in Claremorris as they graciously sent me information about her siblings which I could then confirm through online sites.

Anne married Michael Myles Morley 21-Feb-1881 in Claremorris.  I have nothing on Michael Myles Morley other than his father's name is Myles Morley.  St. Colman's did not have any parish information on Michael.  I have found references in Griffith's to several Morley families around Knock but haven't made any connections to my g-grandfather. He had a half-brother named James Doyle or Dayle who also emigarated to USA, he was listed in the 1895 Minnesota census living with the Morley family.

Just curious is anyone has a connection or information

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

We have a parish liaison in Knock parish so I will alert the PL about your message. By the way, RC parish baptismal records for Knock start in December 1868 so if Michael was from Knock, records will not be available.

  • Hi Roger,

Thanks for replying!  I should have added his birthday, 2 February 1856, so there probably won't be a record.  I feel lucky with St. Colman's then as Anne was born 1 May, 1859 and they had her 10 siblings!  Will be curious if there is anything else.

Hope you have a great Sunday!

Welcome back to Ireland Reaching Out!

Sorry no one got back to you three years ago. It looks like you have found all the available records on the family that are available online at the subscription site Roots Ireland. I did find the 1854 marriage record for Michael Coleman and Mary Ruane which you may already have. Looks like Michael Morley was baptized in a different parish which does not have early records such as Knock.

Did Michael Morely and Anne Coleman emigrate after marriage?

Morely was a very common name in East Mayo based on the 1901 census records. 139 families from Claremorris, Ballyhaunis, Knock, and up to Carracastle.

  • JRoger,

Thanks for the response.  My great grandparents, Michael and Anne, emmigrated to the USA in 1881 after they were married.

I did find a 1901 census record for Myles Morley with a reference to a daughter named Honora, in Meeltran, Ballyhuanis plus some court records for various complaints. it's been interesting to say the least.  Aslo found a refence to his wife's death, Bridget, who died in 1886.

also though Ancestry DNA, a contact from Dublin and I were comparing family names to find a conncetion.  She had a Morley conncetion from Claremoriis, Mary Morley who married John Jennings. through other various records, Honora was a member of the Jennings household after Myles passed in 1908.  So I guess we feel fairly confident we have the correct connection.

    Thank you again!
