Spillane and Blackwell and connected names Maher, Tierney, Delany, Leamy

I think that my family lived in the Dunkerrin area too long ago to be able to find a living descendant, but on the off-chance there is someone still around, I thought I might send in my information. My ggrandfather EDWARD SPILLANE was born to JOHN SPILLANE and ELIZA BLACKWELL in 1845. My ggrandfather Edward and his mother Eliza Blackwell Spillane emigrated to England sometime between 1845-1855. I don’t know if John died back in Ireland, and that is what precipitated the emigration, or if he died in England after emigrating. I do think that the Spillanes wandered in from Co. Tipperary, but from the 1840’s on, there were several Spillane families in the area.

I will include enough information to save someone time from looking for early records for me.

Also, I am in touch with a descendant of a Spillane family who are likely connected, but we cannot make the connection. For that reason I am primarily interested in the family of EDWARD SPILLANE who married JUDY MAHER/MEAGHER in the RC parish of Dunkerrin in 1833 with Patrick Meagher and John Delany serving as witnesses. I have not been able to find where any of the children went but would love to know. (I think that if Edward worked on the Minchin Estate, when he became too old to work or if he died, the family had to leave their home).

*Note on Tim. His name could be James, but it looked like Tim to me. As for his sponsors,

in 1832 an Edward Stoney had married a Margaret Meagher in Roscrea with witnesses John Delany and Edward Spillane. I think this is my Edward and you will notice he too had a John Delany as a witness.

I have wondered if the Edward Spillane who married Ellen Tierney in 1860 with witnesses Michael Lihy and Bridget Maher is part of my Spillane family. They seemed to be of “Cloneganna.” They had Denis in 1861, Honora in 1869, Helen in 1872, and Thomas in 1878. (I think that Edward might be the son of Denis Spillane who married Ellen Leamy in 1833 in Dunkerrin with Daniel Leamy and Ellen Sheedy serving as witnesses).

The Edward Spillane who married Bridget McDonough is the family I am in touch with but we cannot make a connection.

As for the Blackwells, I did locate a burial record of a John Blackwell and Sally Blackwell, from the Church of Ireland parish. I think those are Eliza’s parents. (John Blackwell of Loughane, aged 68, died July 11, 1857, and Sally Blackwell of Loughane, aged 83, died May 30, 1871). I think that John lived on the Minchin Estate. In 1874 John Blackwell's name was removed as the lessee of the Loughane land and replaced by that of John Tuohy. In 1907 the property passed to William Tuohy. The final entry was in 1926 when the property was “in ruins." If Eliza’s father died in 1857, then the John Blackwell who held the land in 1870 might have been her brother. I could find no death record in the index for the time he left Loughane so perhaps he emigrated.

I am not hopeful that I will find any Blackwell relatives in Dunkerrin parish, but I was hoping there might be some record that gave information on John’s emigration.
