Greetings All!

I'm looking for background information on a couple of individuals from Edenderry:

1) Thomas Moran, born around 1828-1834, probably around Edenderry.  Emigrated to the U.S., possibly New York in the 1850s, arrived in California 1858.  Died California 1913.

2) Mary Moran, married in Edenderry 29 May 1843 to Edward Connor who was born around Gort, Galway in about 1820.  I have not been able to find a baptism record for Mary Moran around the 1820 time period.

I am searching for any further information on their birth locations/families and if they are related.

Any suggestions would be welcomed!

Thank you,

Katy Moran

  • Thank you so much Roger!

I don't have parents names for Thomas Moran, but William and Michael are other names that were used for later sons and since the traditional pattern of naming repeats that way, I look for those names going back in time as well.  I looked at census records in Edenderry 1901 / 1911 and if I remember correctly, there were some Morans there who were in the carriage making business.  I was hoping they might have been siblings or cousins to Thomas, but have no way of confirming that (except wishful thinking!).  I will have to go back and find those records to check the names and see if they still look promising.  Thomas was involved in a foundry business in San Francisco when he first arrived there according to his obituary and was active in carriage driving which might (vaguely) suggest an interest.

For Mary Moran, on the 1843 marriage record, witnesses were Thos Quin and Mary Hogan, so that is not very helpful.  I have no other names except for Mary and Edward Connor's children who were:  Sarah Elizabeth, John E. (Edward), Maria and Annie.

    Again, thank you!

  • P.S.  The record for Mary Moran/James / Mary Grumley is very possible.
