    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The RC parish of Lemanaghan has records starting in 1821 so you will not find records for Kyran Egan or his wife Elizabeth in that parish. I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not find a marriage record for the couple. I also looked in Co. Westmeath since Lemanaghan parish borders Westmeath.

There are three Keiran/Keran Egan records in the 1853 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing in Lemanaghan civil parish. Likely your Kyran was one of the three listed  https://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/offaly/lemanaghan.htm

The sponsors were likely siblings to Kyran or a brother and his wife.

Civil registration of deaths started in 1864. The free site www.irishgenealogy.ie has death index records from 1864-1877 and from 1878-1969 has the actual images of the death records. I found an indexrecord in 1866 which is very likely your Kyran. We expect that the images for records from 1864-1877 will be added at some point otherise you can write to the General register Office to get a copy of this reocrd. I also found a possible record for Elizabeth.

There is a group on Facebook called Pullough Golden Oldies and someone there might be able to help you.

    https://www.facebook.com/groups/767819419970358/

The problem with Egan is Offaly is full of them, I have them in my own family tree and its almost impossible to sort out which family is which.

    Have you done your DNA.

The other thing is there is an Offaly Genealogy and DNA group on Facebook also

  • Geraldine,

Thank you for the info on Pullough. I will try that.

I have done my DNA. Searching my matches daily and desperatly. My problem is that my 2 x great gradfather Egan did not marry my 2x great grandmother but they had a child who carries on the Egan name. Knowing not a thing about this Michael Egan it is hard and frustrating but I would love to find out about my Irish heritage!

Are there any Egan DNA groups that you are aware of?  I do belong to several Irish Facebook groups and I am not even sure if my ancestor ties in with Offaly. It was just a direction I took due to a DNA match.

  • Good Morning.  I have to agree, for the most part, with Roger McDonnell's suggestion to look to County West Meath for extant baptismal and marriage records.  But Leamanahan is a Civil Parish, not an Ecclesiastical one.  I have not been able to pinpoint where in the Parish my Coughlan/Eagan/Horan family originated, so I have been reading the Parish registers of the Churches in Athlone and Ferbane.  There are no RC Churches in the Parish, so Clonmacnois might be another source, but their records are not early enough for me (pre-1825).  Best of all Irish luck in locating your families!!
