We will try to Visit Lusmagh on June 27th. Trying to get additional Information on John's Parents James Birmingham and Bridget Fallon. Records show they were married in Lusmagh on January 30, 1840. I really have no other information. They Emigrated to the United States in 1847 but I do not have the ship. Will try to visit the church and Graveyard. Any information on them would be appreciated.

Thank you,

If you have not done so already, could you complete this form regarding your trip to Ireland.  https://www.irelandxo.com/meet-and-greet

On the subscription site Roots Ireland I located baptismal records for two sons.

Thomas Birmingham baptized January 5 1842 father James Birmingham mother Bridget Fallon RC parish Lusmagh sponsors John Birmingham Mary Madden?

John Bermingham baptized June 3 1845 same parents RC parish Lusmagh sponsors Michael Birmingham Catherin Fallon

From the sponsor info, it appears that James had at least two brothers: Michael and John. The 1853 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Lusmagh civil parish shows a John Birmingham in Kilmeelchon townland and a Michael Birmingham in Cogran townland. Very possibly these are the records for the two brothers (Assuming they did not emigrate) and possibly James was from one of the two townlands.

Let me know if you have any questions.

  • Roger,

The family emigrated to the United States in 1847. They are listed in an 1850 Census Record at Gilboa, Schoharie, New York, USA. There is no Thomas listed on the Census so he may have been deceased by that time. The Children Listed were Bridget Birmingham; Patrick Birmingham; John Birmingham; William Birmingham; Robert Birmingham; Mary E Birmingham. Some time after 1850 they had another child named Julia that is shown in the 1860 Census.

I do know that later on when he was married he had a son born in 1882 that was named Thomas. He may have named him after his deceased brother.

√Also, in the church Register there was a John Birmingham baptized on July 26, 1845 in the same church. The parents appear to be Michael and Mary. The witnesses appear to be John Birmingham and Mary Killion. I'm assuming that these would be James brothers and spouses.

Thank you for the information. I have filled out the Meet and Greet form that you provided.

    Have a great Day!

  • There was a William Fallon as a head of household in Griffith's Valuation  in the townland of Cogran in Lusmagh. It's quite possible Bridget Fallon was born there too.

  • Patricia, what's Interesting is that there is a Michael Birmingham shown as the Godfather and Catherine Fallon as the Godmother for my great Grandfather. In the 1854 Griffiths they Show Michael Birmingham and three different Fallons all leasing land from the same person in Congran. These two families must have been very close.
