I am a descendant of Abrahm Neville and Margaret Molloy.  They were married in Rahan parish in June 1840. They had 4 children in Ireland before they left to go to America in 1850. Joseph - 1841, Mary - 1843, Anna Bridget - 1844, & John - 1847. Abraham and Margaret sailed on the William D. Sewell out of Liverpool and arrived in New York in April of 1850.  Their son William was born at sea.  When the Abraham and Margaret left - their 2 sons remained in Lynally Glebe with relatives.  Joseph was age nine and John was age three.  I know that John (my great-grandfather) arrived in America 14 years later. (1864)

The Nevile family moved to Albany NY the familly is listed in the 1850 census as Abraham & Margaret 'Nibble' - their daughter Sarah was born there in 1855.  Their son James was born in Quebec Canada in 1857. The twins Hugh and Margaret were born in 1859 also in Quebec.

Abraham died in 1873 in Rawdon Quebec.  The Margaret and her family moved to Brown County Wisconsin and while in Wisconsin they purchased land in York County Nebraska. Margaret Neville (Mom) purchased 80 Acres for $7 per Acre.  John Neville purchased 160 Acres for $5 per Acre. Joseph purchased 160 Acres for $7 per Acre. (as of 2014 the land was still in Neville hands.)

My grandmother Mary Veronica Neville was born in York Nebraska in 1893 she was one of 11 children.

I have found Abraham Nevils on the 1802 Church of Ireland census for Lynally.

Nevils William, wife, children Jane, Joseph, Abraham, William.

I do not have any record of Jane or Joseph.

In the 1828 Tithe records for Lynally - William Neville had 46 Acres of land.

In Griffith's Valuation - Jeremiah & Jacob are listed incorectlly as Kelly and they have 73 Acres of land.  In the "Cancel Books" for Lynally - the name is corrected back to Neville.

The Neville descendants in Lynally told me in 1990 on my first visit to Lynally Glebe that William Neville moved to Lynally/Tullamore about the time of the troubles (1798). William was a stone mason and helped build Charleville Castle. That the family had moved from Mountmellick to Tullamore. I have found a deed for a William Nevill of Mountmellick dated 1743.

  • Your post is fairly old but if you are still researching family in Lynally, my family is the Kelly's and Leahy's.  I've found Neville and what appears to be Molloy's are sponsors to Roger Kelly's children.  Roger would be the father of Edward Kelly, who is my gg grandfather.

I will add your information to my Kelly research.  Thanks!
