Hello,

I am looking for more information on the Francis Kenny family of Strokestown.

Francis was born around 1803 married to a (I think) Mary/Maria Casey.

They had 16 children, one of which, Margaret Theresa (Kenny) Mahon(1845-1915) was my 2x Great Grandmother.

Margaret and a handful of her siblings emigrated to the United States possibly around 1866.

Margaret's youngest brother, also Francis Kenny, stayed on to work the Ropemaking trade with his father.

The younger Francis married an Ellen S. They had a son Joseph Francis Kenny that also worked the Ropemaking trade.

I did find that later on that Joseph Francis Kenny did emigrate to the US with most or all of his family.

The one story my dad remembered and his oldest brother recalled also, was an Aunt Bella visiting their mother/family from Ireland, either in the late 1960's or early 1970's. We don't know which family she was related through though, my Paternal Grandmother (by whom I'm related to the Kenny's) had all Irish Parents/Grandparents, Mahon/Kenny and Lawless/Kearney. Sadly the Kenny side is the only side that I've had much success with.

I would love to make a connection in the Strokestown area, since I will be making my first trip to Ireland in the later part of May early part of June.

Thank you

Alicia

  • Col,

Thank you for the info, I'll definitely look into it. I hadn't come across any marriage info yet so maybe that will be them. I was starting to figure that those are common surnames.

    Thank You again,

    Alicia
