Can anyone confirm that a Townland called Clare existed in the Cloonfinlough parish?

My Flanagans left in the late 1840s for the US  and I'm looking to find the Townland.

Thank you

Beth Flanagan

Tithes of 1824 has Flanagan from Lissheenerin which from the attachment map is adjacent to Clare, Cloonfinlough, Roscommon.

Flanagan name absent from both townlands in the Griffith Valuation 1857.

  • Hi,

My Flanagans are from Cloonfree, near Clare.  How much info do you have on your family?  Have you tested with any of the Genetic Genealogy companies?

  • Hello Rob

I have tons of info on my Flanagans here in the US.... from the first census in 1850.   I have not yet found the ship manifest nor any records in Ireland.   I have only a family record passed down that they came from Clare.   I thought that meant the County but recently (due to the high percentage of Flanagans in Roscommon, and the fact that they had close family relations with Flemings from Galway right on the Roscommon border) thought about trying to pursue Townland name of Clare

I've tested with Ancestry.com DNA, and uploaded it to GEDmatch, but I'm finding links mostly to my mother's side of the family from that.  I haven't convniced any living male relatives to submit DNA yet :-)

So truthfully, the Clare townland is speculation....
