Reaching out to anyone with a Barrett ancestor originating in the parish of Croghan (Killummod & Killukin) Boyle, and their extended line in Carrick-on-Shannon. The name has all but disappeared from the area now, but it had a great history.

  • Dear Rua:

Many thanks for your post to the Ireland Reaching Out message board and welcome to the site!

We do have a volunteer in the Boyle area who may be able to assist with further information.

It appears that you might have information that you could post to the XO Chronicles.  Would you consider doing so?

    The link is below:

Your knowledge of the Barrett family would be very interesting for others to read and the Chronicles are updated weekly.

If you have any questions, please contact me at:  jhalloranryan@irelandxo.com

    All the best,

    Jane.

  • Hi Jane,

I believe I am also related to the Barrett's from this area.  My ancestor was Patrick Barrett who was the sun of Matthew Joseph Barrett and Susanne Kelty.  Matthew emigrated to the United States in 1864 with some of his children.  Patrick arrived in New Jersey and eventually resided in Mahonney City, Pennsylvania where he worked as a coal miner.  He eventually moved to Brooklynn NY where he died in 1891.  I would love to connect to other relatives of the Barrett family to learn more about the life and times of my ancestors.
