Mooney Ancestors of Taghboy, Roscommon

The RC parish for Taghboy civil parish would be Ballyforan/Dysart/Tisrara http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0544   Unfortunately, baptismal record start in July 1850 and marriages start in 1862. I checked on Roots Ireland and could not locate any baptismal records for any Monney children of Michael Mooney with a wife with the maiden name of Kennedy. The 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Taghboy civil parish does show two Michael Mooney records and likely your ancestor was one of two listed.  http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/roscommon/taghboy.htm  

Do you have any additional information on your family? Did the entire family emigrate?

I don't think that the whole Mooney family emigrated from Taghboy, Roscommon as on the marriage certificate of my Great Grandparents Patrick Mooney and Margaret Bell 27th October 1868 at 28 Lady Lane, Paisley, Scotland it stated:-

Patrick Mooney, Private 63rd Regiment of Foot a bachelor, Father Michael Mooney a Farmer, Mother Rose Mooney m.s.Kennedy

I therefore believe that Michael Mooney and his wife Rose still lived in Taghboy, Roscommon in 1868.

On the army service record of Patrick Mooney dated 1864 he stated that he was born in the parish of Taghboy, Roscommon, he was 18 years old and his trade was a labourer and at the time he was residing in the parish of St Annes, Dublin.

I found these 1901 and 1911 census records for a James Mooney in Cloghan which is one of the two townlands in the 1855 Griffiths I sent you. James was a widower. Note he had a daughter named Rose so possibly he is a brother of Patrick. I also found an 1878 marriage record which may be for the same James.

I have carried out an Ethnicity DNA test with Ancestry and below are my results :-

Ireland and Scotland 60% - England, Wales and North Western Europe 40%

Central Ireland :- South Roscommon, Roscommon

Ulster Ireland :- South Down and North Louth
