Hello!   I am researching William Auliff of Sligo, Ireland.  Born @ 1830, found on Griffith's Valuation, Looey-Ballynakill-Sligo.  I am searching for the possible connection to a daughter of his - Kate (Catherine), b. 1854, died 1916, Sligo.  She was married to a farmer, James Musgrave/Musgrove and they raised 7 children in Sligo, and are both buried at Toomna Church. Any information regarding the Auliff family would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

Here are the 1901 and 1911 census records for James and Kate in Derrenasoo townland Tumna civil parish. There is a discrepancy on where John Edward was born. The 1901 indicates Sligo but 1911 indicates Roscommon. If 1911 is correct then the family probably went to Roscommon right before 1890.

  • Thank you Roger!  I am really searching for info on the Auliff family to determine if they did have a daughter named Catherine or Kate.  James & Kate Musgrave were my ggrandparents. We had believed that Kate's maiden name was McAuliff, but as I have located records for the Auliff family in Sligo, and have documentation that Kate was also born in Sligo - the connection seems possible/probable.  What I need to confirm this is more information regarding William Auliff, along with the names of his his wife and any children they may have had.  Thanks for forwarding these census records!

    Sincerely,

    Maureen

Below is the civil marriage index record for the marriage of Kate and James. To get a copy, you can write to the GRO www.groireland.ie fill out their form and provide the year of marriage, registration district (Sligo) and the volume and page number ( 17 and 289). Costs around 4 euros. It should provide where the bride and groom came from and the names of the fathers. I also suggest that you go to www.familysearch.org and search in Ireland for the name Auliff. In the first 20 records you get, there is also a marriage of a Sarah Auliff in 1857 in Co. Sligo, father William, to a Roland Carter. Possible connection?

  • Thanks again!  I did research that Sarah Auliff connection - think that might be a sister to William based on the date.  I certainly appreciate your assistance!

    Sincerely,

    Maureen
