I am looking for information on James Hannah.  He lived in Lisanny in the 1800's.  I estimated his birth date to be around 1818, however, he did live in Lisanny in 1865.  I am interested in his marriage records and birth records.  Having trouble identifying his wife, and parents.  Any help would be appreciated.

thanks

Mary

I looked at the 1858 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Emlaghfad civil parish. It looks like the surname was Hannan. There was a James Hannan in Lissananny More townland and it is likely he is your relative.

You may want to try www.rootsireland.ie which is a pay site to view records. They have the RC marriage records starting in 1824 and the baptismal records starting in 1856 for Emlaghfad parish..

Finally, if you check the 1901 census www.census.nationalarchives.ie  you will see that there were three Hannan or Hannon households in Lissananny More townland. NOTE: The townland was erroneously shown as Lissanahny More in the 1901 censu.

  • Hi Roger

Thank you so much, this information is very helpful.  I went back and looked at one of the letters that I have from James to his son Thomas and the spelling is Hannan.  The James Hannan listed in the1858 Griffiths Valuation is my Great Great Grandfather.

I will also talke a look at the other sorces you mentioned.

    thank you
