I am looking for any information on the family of John Francis and Margaret Cawley from Sligo. I have their marriage record from Emlefad & Kilmorgan in 1848. I also knew that Margaret's parents were O. & Mary Cawley.

I looked at the 1858 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Emlaghfad civil parish. There was a John Scanlan in Carrigans Upper townland. I then looked at the 1901 census for Carrigans Upper and found a 76 year old John Scanlon, a widower, living alone. l assume this is your John. I also found another Scanlon family in this townland headed up by an Andrew Scanlon who I believe was a son of John. ( Note: oldest son was John). The 1911 had at least four Scanlan families in the townland.

Thank you. Sorry it has taken me so long to get back!
I also found a John Scanlon in the Tithing Applotment for 1824 (we know our John Scanlon came to America around the 1850s). This was listed in the Ballysumaughan records and I was very pleased to see a long list of Cauleys and even an Owen Cawley. Owen is a family name for our family in America, but we never have know its origins. This might be our link!
