Did you know that Irish legends were telling of werewolves, vampires and banshees centuries before Hollywood ever heard of them? These ancient and spooky places have colourful histories and continue to draw in locals and tourists in the hopes of seeing (or hearing!) a ghost!

The emerald isle has a chequered past filled with wars, killings and massacres. It should therefore come as no surprise that there have been many tragic incidents across Ireland over the centuries. Long before Hollywood created films about vampires, ghosts and ghouls, Irish folklore was steeped in eerie legends from jilted brides that haunt ancient forts to deceased soldiers roaming around stately castles.

The people at The Ocean Sands Hotel have sourced some of the spookiest destinations in all of Ireland and displayed them in the interactive Storymap below. Whether you’d like to visit some of these mysterious places or are simply interested in learning about their history, this Storymap features eight creepy destinations that have interesting (and bloody!) histories!

From graveyards to manors, castles to lodges, there are tons of ghostly dwellings that have enchanted locals and tourists from all over the world. A number of the troubled residences included on the Storymap have been presented on ghost hunting TV programs such as Most Haunted and Ghost Adventures. Although many question the validity of the claims, there have been countless witnesses that have seen or heard disturbances in each of these dwellings. Do you want to know all the captivating details about these enigmatic residences? Take a look at the interactive Storymap right now!

If you had to choose, which one of these eerie dwellings would you visit this Halloween?
