My Great, Great grandfather Thomas J (shown on some records as St John or could be Joseph or just John) was born in Clonmel in 1835 aprox. He came to England alone when in his teens as he first shows up on the UK 1851 census aged 16 and living as a lodger in the parish of St Giles in the Fields in London. I am interested in his Father and Mother. I think his father may be William Dwyer born 1805 but I don't know who his mother is or if his father is correct.

Can anyone help?

Thank you

    (2) Thomas Dwyer, Baptism St. Mary's Clonmel on June 12th 1835. Father: William - Mother: Ellen Hogan.  Baptismal Sponsors: Patrick Hogan and Ellen Murphy; (No Siblings shown).

    (3) Thomas Dwyer, Baptism St. Mary's, Clonmel on December 29th 1836. Father: William - Mother: Margaret Casey. Baptismal Sponsors: Michael Slattery and Margaret Egan (Sibling: William 1839).

You can check free site: catholicparishregisters@nli.ie - National Library of Ireland for those records.

Have you checked Thomas' marriage and work records for the names of his parents?

  • Thank you for replying to me and I'm ashamed I didn't answer you sooner. I have since found a couple of more likely matches for his mother; possible marriage for an Elizabeth St John marrying a William Dwyer 13th July 1826, Felthard, Cashel & Emly. Another for Helen St John in 1st quarter 1826 in Cashel.

I don't know which one, if either is the right one.

    Thanks Paula
