Margaret was born 12 Apr 1907 at Strifehill, Cookstown. Married John (?)  Rocks from Armagh  mid to late 1930's. Had 3 children Nuala, Oliver and Geraldine. Lived in Navan, Co Armagh. Can not find any record of marriage.

  • I don’t see the marriage either. There are 2 Margaret Mulgrew marriages in the period 1930 – 1940, both in Belfast, but neither married a Rocks. I suppose the options are:

    1. They didn’t marry
    2. They married outside Ireland
    3. For some reason the civil authorities didn’t get notified of their marriage.

Have you checked the children’s birth certificates to confirm the mother is shown as married ie "Margaret Rocks formerly Mulgrew?" If she’s just Margaret Mulgrew and the word "formerly" is deleted then they weren’t married.

  • Thank you  for your reply. Margaret was my aunt and I do remember her from the 50's. Marriage may have occurred elsewhere as there is no record of the date of their marriage on the Cookstown Church Baptism record. There are such mentions for her siblings. I will try to track down one of the children (my cousins) for more information.

  • Problem solved. Margaret did not get married until she was 38 in 1945. I was assuming 1930  to 1940. And at that time she was also living in Armagh County. Hence no marriage in Cookstowm. Must stop assuming anything.

  • Margaret Mulgrew marriage to John Rocks registered in Armagh 2.1.1945.  You can view that certificate on the GRONI site for £2.50.
