I am researching my Fathers family, my mother said his family were from Kilkenny.  His Father John Coady (a painter by trade) was born in was born in Kilkenny in 1875 he had a brother William Coady who was born in 1884.  Their parents were Michael Coady and Mary O Hoolihan I do not have a birth year for Michael, but Mary was born in 1855.

My understanding is that Michael Coady may have been older than Mary and had a family before I have attached a picture of two sisters who were teachers that left for America we think they may have been John's step Sisters and would love to find out more about them.

We also know that some of the family went to New Zealand on the O Hoolihan side.

John Coady left Kilkenny and moved to Saggart where he married.

I have also attached two pictures of John Coady.

  • Cody family

Michael Cody and Mary Holohan had 8 children, the children were all born between 1866 and  1875 it is therefore not likely that Mary Holohan was born in 1855, she would have been 11 when she gave birth to her first child.

Michael Cody and Mary Holohan married on 21-Feb-1865 in Tullaherin both were over 21 years of age, witnesses were Catherine Holohan and Michael Murphy, unfortunately no parents mentioned on the marriage record.

Mary baptised 25-Jan-1866 Tullaherin Kilkenny, Margaret date of birth 02-Jan-1867 Tullaherin,  Bridget born 09-May-1868, Catherine born 27-Nov-1869, Honor born 20-Feb-1871, Ellen born  05-Jul-1872, Michael born 27-Nov-1873, and finally John born 17-Dec-1875.  All were born at the address Kilfane, Tullaherin co Kilkenny.

    Hope this helps

  • Hi , my family comes from the coady family in Ireland my grandmother traced our roots back to William coady in Canada - the famous buffalo Bill - so we are probably related somewhere along the line. I would love to meet as many coadys as possible and link our family trees
