We are looking for parents of Thomas T. Snee born ?1837 and Bridget Duffy born ?1838 (4th great grandparents of my husband) who were born in Mayo, but moved to Birstall, England and were married there. We think his parents may have been Thomas Snee and Bridget Doyle (another source says James Snee and Mary Duffy) and hers may be Patrick and Mary Duffy. We will be visiting in mid June. Any information would be most welcome.

  • I see a marriage for Thomas and Bridget, registered in Dewsbury, Yorkshire Oct – Dec 1861, Volume 9b page 757. If you order a copy of that certificate it should give you their fathers’ names and occupations.

  • There is a large tree on Ancestry with your relations. Attached is the marriage certificate giving their father's names.

I can provide more information if you do not have an Ancestry account.

  • BTW, this tree does show the parents as Thomas Snee & Bridget Doyle and Patrick Duffy & Mary Mullen.

  • Carolyn and Elwyn,

Thank you so much! I have seen the marriage certificate but failed to notice that their father's names were on it. I do have an Ancestry account and will look for the tree. I appreciate your help very much.

    Roger,

I will add details shortly. Thanks to you as well.

    Kindest Regards,

    Allison

  • we will be in Mayo the evening of June 17 and the morning of June 18.  We will be looking for the gravesite of Thomas Snee who died in Shamer in 1870 and hoping to visit a church where our ancestors may have visited.  Thank you all.

  • The closest church to Shammer would be St. Celsius in Kilkelly town  https://kilmoveeparish.org/st-celsus-kilkelly/

The church in Kilkelly is a subordinate church to the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Kilmovee.

Not sure we will be able to find a local volunteer but if you have any time stop into Cois Tine Heritage Center in Kilmovee right next to the church.
