I am looking for information on Charles Taylor (c1795-after 1846?), and his wife Bridget Claffey. They were of Kilcleagh parish at least as early as 1833, when their son, Charles, was baptized there, until after 1846 per the petty court session records available online at Findmypast.com. Other known or suspected children of Charles and Bridget were: Ellen, John, Michael, and Mary. Michael was baptized in the parish of Ballyloughloe in 1826. Most if not all of their children immigrated to the Boston area in the 1840's, and the family was Roman Catholic.

I noticed that there was a James Claffey listed in the Griffiths Valuation for this parish, who may have been a nephew of Charles' wife, Bridget, but that is merely speculation.

Other than parish records and the census substitutes, are there any other records available for this parish like tenant ledgers, gravestone inscriptions, histories, etc?

  • Dear Kurt

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and apologies for the long delay in getting back to you.

Unfortunately outside of the records you mentioned, the remaining sources for Co. Westmeath (and other counties) are held either in the National Library, Dublin or the National Archives, Dublin.

Have a look though, at www.rootsireland .ie where they have listed some of the links that are available. Even though they are listed under 'miscellaneous' they are useful:

Have you managed to find out any more about the family from a look on the Ancestry.com message boards or public member trees?

    Best wishes
