Looking for relatives of William Colson/Colston/Coleston (a carpenter) and Anne Harris who left Street/Streete for the USA in 1851 with five children: Joseph, Margaret. Catherine, Mary Ann, Elizabeth, and infant William. and an adult relative: Catherine Colston. They sailed from Liverpool to Philadelphia eventually settling in Brooklyn, NY. Young William went on to become an Alderman in Brooklyn, and Commissioner of Railroads in 1892-94.  They belonged to the Church of Ireland.  Would love to determine where they lived and know more about their lives and their voyage. Thank You!

Thank you, Kevin.  They left in 1851 and settled in Brooklyn, NY, so who knows if anyone is still left there.  Someday, I would love to visit and see where they lived. Shannon, Ireland was the first place in Europe I ever visited so many years ago. We never knew much about our Irish heritage.  Finally, after many years of searching, IrelandXO helped us find some birth and marriage records within a few days.  We are so thankful to Roger and Clare and to you for reaching out.   We have been reading everything we can about this area and the journey during the Famine.  What courageous and strong people! Blessings to you,

    Barbara

  • Matthew Colston listed on the Tithe Applotments at Barn Edgeworthstown Co Longford farming 10 acres in 1825.

This is not far from Streete in distance, maybe 5 or 6 miles
