My great grandmother Annie Donlan was born in Ballinasloe on June 28, 1866. Her parents were Kieran Donlan and Bridget Shelly, and she had 5 brothers and sisters
Peter Donlan, born 1867
Honoria Donlan born 1869
John Donlan born 1871
Patrick Donlan born 1873
Laurence Donlan born 1879
Annie came to Boston and she married Patrick Brady in 1886. Patrick was also from Ballinasloe, born on April 10, 1864, the son of John Brady and Catherine Cunniffe. His brothers and sisters were:
Mary Brady, born 1861
Elizabeth Brady, born 1866
Teresa Brady, born 1871
Michael Brady, born 1874
Bridget Brady, born 1877
John Joseph Brady, born 1878
I'm not sure if any of their other family members came to Boston. Annie and Patrick were the parents of my grandmother Mary Brady, born in Boston in 1902. I'd appreciate any help in tracking down any Donlan/Bradys in Ballinasloe.
Thank you.

Catherine:
Kieran Donnellan married Bridget Shelley (Sheelly on the index record) in 1865. You can get a copy of this record from the General Register Office for around 4 euros. The record would show the names of the fathers of the bride and groom and where the bride and groom were living in 1865. If you plan to get a copy let me know and I will forward instructions.
I looked at the 1901 and 1911 censuses and could not find any records that looked like they pertained to your Donlan/Donnellan or Brady families.
I searched for a death index record for Kieran thinking it would be prior to 1901 but the record that popped up was in 1916, however, I could not locate him in 1901 or 1911.

Go to this link http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx In the middle of the page there are links for birth, marriage or death certificates. Hit the link for the form you want. Print the form and complete the requested information. Also provide the information from the index record--quarter/year of the event. registration district and the volume and page number where the event is recorded. Make sure you ask for a copy which costs around 4 euros. ( A cert costs closer to 20 euros). You can also ask the GRO to e-mail the copy back to you.

Hello,
Since my last post, I have had a lot of success in my search for my Donellan roots. However I still have a missing piece - Joseph Donnellan, the brother of my greatgrandmother Annie. I didn't have him on my original list of Annie's siblings.
Joseph Donnellan was born in January 1877, the son of Kieran and Bridget (Shally) Donnellan. The Donnellans lived in Glentaun, Ballinasloe. Joseph was a blacksmith and he married Ellen Cullen on October 14, 1908. Ellen was from Rathdawn, County Meath. I find them on the 1911 census boarding on Main Street, Kilcloony, County Galway, but I have been unsuccessful in finding any children born to Joseph and Ellen. I know that Joseph and Ellen were alive in 1939 as they are mentioned in a newspaper article as attending the funeral of Joseph's brother "Black Jack" Donnellan, in Ballinasloe.
I did find an obituary for a Joseph Donnellan dated February 5, 1961, which might be him. His age is listed as 84, and he is listed as a retired blacksmith. Present at birth is a daughter Mary Mulkerrin, and the address is 6 Bowling Green Galway.
I'd appreciate any help you can provide!
Thank you!

Hi Cadtin!
I think the obit you have is likely the missing sibling. I searched from 1908-1915 for civil births for Donnellan/Donelan/Donlan children in the Ballinasloe district and there were none with a mother with the surname Cullen.
Possibly they were not in the Ballinasloe area. There are no records online after 1915 because of the 100 year rule so it is also possible Mary Mulkerrin was born 1916 or later.

Thank you so much!! I believe I saw the documentary - I have visited the farm at Glentaun! I'd appreciate hearing anything you have heard! My email address is cthrndwny@yahoo.com!
And since my last post I not only found info on Joseph Donnellan but have made contact with his family!
