My immigrant ancestor, William deVinney, born 1680, in Dungannon, Tyrone, Ireland, was most likely the grandson of Jenkins Devinny (Deveny, Divin, O'Divin) born ca 1620, Gentleman of Dungannon, County, Tyrone, Ireland, took up arms against the State in 1649 and his estates were confiscated.  After Cromwell's victory, he was allowed to keep 60 acres and to pay quit-rents to the English.  He maried about 1640.  Evidence points to the fact that he was a Protestant.  He was probably the grandfather of William Deveny, born ca 1680 who came to America and died in Monmouth County, New Jersey, who married Mary ______.  Issue: Aaron Deveny, John Deveny, Phoebe Deveny, Andrew Deveny, George Deveny, and William Deveny.

I would like to know if William is the grandson of Jenkins, who William's father was, and any other information about the family, especially further ancestry.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and apologies for the delay in getting back to you!

You have already gathered quite a bit of information on your ancestors, William, congratulations.

Dungannon is in the Church of Ireland Parish of Drumglass where parish records begin in 1600 for baptisms, 1854 for marriages and 1754 for deaths. There are some gaps in the series between 1767 and 1822 for baptisms and 1768 and 1813 for marriages. Have you used ancestry.com to search for a connection between them? The CoI records for Drumglass are not available online so you will have to contact the Representative Church Body Library in Rathfarnham, Dublin, as they hold the records of the CoI in this country, see links below:
