.My husband's great grandfather was Francis Jackson, born around 1864, perhaps in Co. Derry.   His parents were James Jackson(shoemaker) and Ann Dunsmore (or variations, i.e. Dunsmere, Dinsmore), may have married in County Down 1841.  According to his death certificate in Scotland, James was the son of James Jackson and Ann Wills.   The first census I have found in Scotland is for 1871, siblings were William, Henry, Richard, Emma Jane and Thomas.   Any information would be greatly appreciated.   Catherine, Ayrshire

  • Catherine,

Statutory birth registration started in Ireland in 1864. I searched 1864 – 1870 for Frances but did not find his birth. Suggests he was born in 1863 or earlier. Were any of his siblings born in or after 1864? If so, they may be easier to find.

  • Hi Catherine.  Have we connected before?  I have more details. James Jackson was a Distillery Maltman and was from Coleraine so likely worked at Coleraine Distillery or Bushmills in the early 1800’s.  Email me at wwjackson4@gmail.com
