Hello,

I am trying to find the baptism /birth records for Pat Shevlane and Mary Shevlane.

Parents Richard ( or Dick) Shevlane and Mary Shevlane nee Carolan

Residence in 1851

County Mayo

Barony Erris

Parish Kilcommon

On the extract census search form for 1851 it states on 15/12/15 they have found

Can you suggest where I might find their records please.

The RC baptismal records for Kilcommon Erris parish start in 1860 so you will not find any baptismal records. Marriages are available from 1843-1848 and then a gap until 1900. So you were very fortunate to find the marriage record.

The 1851 census extracts from the Old Age Pension process are great finds. I located one for one of my Donegal families.

  • Thank You for your help,it is much appreciated.

I have also tried without any success to find the death record for Richard Shevlane.

On Honor death registration for 1900 she is a widow. Michael was the last child to be born in 1866,so I am assuming Richard died during the period 1865 to 1901. Would you know were else to try ?

  • There is a Rootschat forum which may interest you about Shevlanes , it dates back to October 2019.

I did not find a civil death record and the RC parish did not keep death data for that people. Looks like the death was not registered. For many people in very rural areas, it was difficult to get to the registrar and register a civil event.
