  • Hi Ann, Three Hickey girls from Clonegal married three men from Knockballystine.  One married a Hennessy and their daughter was my great grandmother, another married a Lennon and a third married a Cosgrave but Mrs Cosgrave did not live long and her husband remarried and Kate is probably from the second marriage.  Kate married Joseph Abraham of Boley Co Wicklow on 4th March 1889 he was a widower and his father's name was Joseph also.  Kate's father was Edward Cosgrave and the witnesses were Edward Doyle and Margaret Cosgrave. Joseph was first married in Clonegal to Ann Moran Kilcarry Clonegal (incidentally I live in that place now) on 14th February 1871 but she died.  I do not know if there was a second family.  They are probably buried in Kilquiggan cemetery.

Hope this is of help to you.

    Mary Kelly.

  • Mary, thank you so much for all your help.

Is it possible to get your e mail please ?

    I have a few more questions .

Ann Moran was my great grand mother, Joseph Abraham my great grandfather.

The youngest child in that family was Annie Abraham, my grandmother.

  • Kate Cosgrave and Joseph Abraham had no family. She looked after Joseph's children, my grandmother Annie, the youngest in the family, was about two years old when her mother Anne Moran died. Joseph Abraham and Anne Moran are buried in Aghowle, but Kate is not. On the marriage cert, Kate is described as a farmer which in unusual. Perhaps she was farming the Cosgrave holding.
