Hi, I am writing from the USA. I am looking for any ancestors I may have in Ireland. My last name is Perdue. I was able to find out that there are 2 families in Ireland that may be related. One family in Templeroan & another family in Magorban with the last name of Perdue. I am trying to locate anyone with the name of PERDUE. Any help you may give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

  • Janice,

There’s 44 people of the name Perdu(e) in the 1911 Irish census. There’s 5 in the current Irish phone book: http://www.eirphonebook.ie/?extlink=eircomphonebook

    Click on the residential option.

  • I am married to a descendant of Thomas Perdue (b C 1821 in Ireland).  He married Kate Harrington (b 1825 in England).  They both died in Peterborough, Ontario in the 1890s.  I'm sorry I cannot tell you more!

  • Hi, my name is Susan Wesley and my 2X's great grandmother was Mary Perdue who married Patrick Kelly.  Their 8 children all immigrated to  the US sometime after 1862 and settled in Whitesboro (suburb) of Utica, New York, or in the Corn Hill section (Irish section) of Utica, New York.  Patrick and Mary were married November 5, 1845, in the Catholic church in Killenaule, Diocese of Cashel and Emly, Tipperary, Ireland.  The children were raised  in the Catholic faith with 6 of the 8 baptizm's referenced in the Killenaule parish register.  The other two baptizm's were in Boherlahan, same diocese and county Tipperary.

I think Mary Perdue Kelly's parents were Peter and Mary Walsh Perdue.  Mary, the daughter, was born in Silverfort Townland, in the civil parish of Margoban, west of the town of Killenaule.  She was baptized on May 3, 1821, in the Catholic church in Killenaule.  At the time of marriage to Patrick, she was living "Fookstown" (really Foulkstown).

I have found numerous news clippings for this particular Kelly family in old Utica, NY, newspapers referencing all the related families that attended the functions.  There was always the family of William Perdue present.  He had several children and only one or two lived to adulthood.  There were two William Perdue families in Whitesboro/Utica.  The other William Perdue family moved to Utica from Philadelphia.  I could find no tie to this family.

I do not know if William Perdue was a brother of Mary or maybe her nephew???  I just know they are related somehow because this family was very close, you could tell by the news clipipngs, they  just did everything together.

Let me know if this info helps.  I can send you the names and birth dates of Pat and Mary Perdue Kelly's 8 children and tell you how to look up info online from the National Library of Ireland - it's free.

    Sincerely,

    Susie Wesley

  • My 2nd Great Grandmother was Maria (Mary) Perdue. I know she was married in Cashel Tipperary Ireland on November 1, 1852 to Daniel Murphy who may have been from Cashel or Foulkstown Tipperary. Daniel was a huntsman. I believe he trained hounds and/or horses. They lived in Cashel and then various towns in County Down where I have been given children’s names through RC Church and civil records. They are last documented in Belfast in 1901 census on North Queen Street. Only Daniel Murphy is listed in 1911 census. I would love to find some connection to Maria Perdues parents and siblings. This has been a brick wall for years. My grandmother spoke of her being French but there is no documentation. There is no other Perdues on her RC marriage record as witnesses or any of her children’s  baptismal records as sponsors. I know there are other Perdues in Tipperary at that time but I can’t them to my Maria.

  • Susan Marie Wesley - looks like part of my family tree overlaps with yours. My great great grandparents are Daniel Murphy (1841-1912) m Maria / Mary? Perdue (1840-1904).  They moved to Belfast and were recorded at 34 Weaver Street and are recorded there in 1918. In 1922 Weaver Street, a small RC enclave, was the subject of a bombing .. So they moved. I only tracked one son - Daniel J Murphy.

I got stuck on the Perdue line . I have John Perdue b. 1720 spouse ?. Son John Perdue b.1740 m Mary Amphlett and their Child Henry b 1763 m Catherine Deakin. They had a lot of children, some of whom stayed in Co. Tipperary but many moved to or were borne in Canada. My line .  Henry Perdue b 1763 buried at Sea m Catherine Deakin - their  Headstone is in Caesar Cemetery, Peel County, Ontario. Inscription: Henry Perdue Died at sea June 21, 1831 AE 68 yrs. Catherine His wife Died Nov. 15, 1835 AE 63 yrs. Nat. of Co. Tipperary, Ireland. Their son Thomas b. 1760 stayed in Co. Tipp and married Margaret Geason and Mary/Maria was their daughter borne 1840 m Daniel Murphy.

Hope this makes sense. The name Perdue allegedly translates as 'lost' from French.. the lineage may well have come from France but I can get back any further than 1720 ...

  • John Perdue and Thomas Perdue are both names that figure large in my husband's family, which has its Canadian base near Peterborough, ON.
