My Great Grandmother Mary Stack was born in  1832 in Kilbaha Listowel to Ellen Shanahan and Richard Stack. She came to the USA on Feb 27 1852 thru New Orleans.  Richard Stack must have died some time in the 1830's or early 1840's as Ellen remarried To a Mr George Gregory and had 3 children in the mid to late 1840's. Ellen and George came to the Usa about 1850 and settled in Carlisle, Nicholas Co Ky. Mary Stack married my Great Grandfather Patrick E Walsh about 1853 in Paris Kentucky. Any info on Mary Stack would be appreciated, all names above are burried in the Paris Ky Catholic cemetery. Patricks father John R Walsh born about 1810 was born in Moyvane / Newtown Sandes and died in Ky in 1865, Patrick and John came to Ky about 1849 or 1850. Mary Stack Walsh died in 1912 in Lexington Ky, Ellen Shanahan, Stack, Gregory died in 1872 and is also burried in the Paris Ky Catholic Cemetery.

Any Info would be treasured.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

www.irishgenealogy.ie is a free irish government site which has Co. Kerry church records. I searched for a Mary Stack baptismal record with father James Stack and a mother with the maiden name of Shanahan but got no record. There are gaps in the Listowel records and there are no records for 1834-1836 and June 1838 thru 1840 http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0678  Possibly Mary was baptized in the first gap period. I also looked for siblings and did not find any records.

I did find an 1844 record in Lixnaw RC parish for a Richard Gregory. Lixnaw is the RC parish to the southwest of Listowel parish.

  • Thanks Roger, Richard Stack is the correct name for Mary's father. I believe that it was James Richard Stack, I have that info on their marriage and the birth of Mary Stack, 8 Jan, 1832 in Kilbaha. I have searched for many years for any info on my G G Grandfather John R Walsh wife, I do not know for sure but I do have a pretty good idea who she was. I have used Irish Genealogy more times than than any one could know, it is a great site. George Gregory and Ellen Shanahan had two girls born to them in Ireland besides the boy named Richard born 1844, the girls were born in 1846 & 1848, I have never found a record on the girls in Ireland. I have extensive information  on all of these people after they arrived in the States, Thanks again for getting back to me, it is appreciated.
