    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Roots Ireland does not have the marriage record or any of the baptismal records. My guess is that the marriage and baptisms occurred in a parish that does not have records for the 1840s. St. Peter's Athlone has a baptism gap from February 1841-January 1845. St. Msry's Athlone has the records for the 1840s. Possibly the events occurred in another close parish.

Based on your notes the mother left Ireland in 1849 but the children stayed in Ireland even though they were very young?

Have you considered autosomal DNA testing?

  • The three children died before the mother left, do you know if death records were kept back then?   And yes I have considered doing a DNA test.  There are so many test being offered out there!

Civil registration of deaths started in 1864. Prior to that only church records are available and very few churches kept death records particularly around the time of the Famine.
