Haven't been able to find where exactly in Co. Meath my 2xgreat grandparents were from.

He was Michael Reilly b.1781 married to Rose Tully b.1787.  Michael farmed and was a blacksmith.

He supposedly is buried in Athboy, date of death is 28 March 1839.  They were Catholic.  Rose and Michael had 4 children (Thomas,Francis,Michael and daughter Rose).  After Michael passed Rose and her adult children left for America and lived in Illinois.

Francis was my great grandfather and drove a dray wagon as a boy from Kells to Dublin after his father died.

I would love to know where they were from in Meath, and where in Athboy he is buried.

He might have been O'Reilly according to Francis they threw the 'O' overboard when coming to America.

Any help would be so great appreciated!  Thank you, Lynn Coleman (nee Reilly)

  • Hi Lynn

I couldn't find a marriage record for them but there is a baptism record of Michael Riley 1780 in Meath on www.rootsireland.ie/(which charges) The record will have the parish and MAYBE his parents' names

I couldn't find a Rose Tully but there are 5 Tully baptisms 1787 + - 1 year - 4 are boys' names so the Anne record 1786 COULD be yours?

rootsireland.ie also has 2 death / burial records for Michael Reilly - both Athboy RC so maybe one of these may have more info on it

  • Hello Col, I don't remember seeing your response....Thank you for writing!  I found a death register for Michael Reilly in the Townland of Fraine, Co. Meath.  I will try to find the baptism record for Rose Tully...maybe she was an Anne....she's a mystery to me!  Lynn
