I am searching for the Roberts family whom I believe is from Lackagh Co Galway. John Roberts b circa 1844 Married Winifred Long b circa 1844. They had a son MIchael J Roberts born 1874 in Ireland. I believe they immigrated to Boston sometime after 1880. Michael d 1963 in Boston, Mass.

Shane Wilson found a civil birth record for a Michael Rabbitt in Oranmore. See note below. Possibly Michael Roberts was Michael Rabbit in Ireland?

hi there - for reference I think that mention of Lackagh parish for that 'Roberts' topic may be incorrect. There's a pretty good match for a civil birth for Michael but with surname Rabbit - place of birth is Parkroe in Oranmore sub-district Galway district, there a good match to this townland in Oranmore civil parish (quite close to Lackagh).

Hi Dave,
I'm familiar with the family. 1890 - 1900 were difficult times due to Agrarian strife. Emigrants often assumed new identities on leaving Ireland to avoid prosecution. In this case would have travelled as Roberts born Rabbitte.
