I'm doing some research for a relative. I'm researching Annie Kearney (born about 1919) and her family. She was married in 1938 to Patrick Monaghan and on the marriage cert it says she was living in cabra and her father was James Kearney. But I can't find her birth cert so I can't be sure of her mothers maiden name. Her mothers first name was Mary and it's thought she was born about 1884-1886. If anyone could help me locate Annie's birth cert I would really appreciate it.

I located two 1919 civil birth index records in Co. Down. The first is more likely because I found a couple Cabragh townlands in Co. Down that are within the Newry registration district.

  • Thank you for your reply Roger, you're always a great help to me. I tried to get that birth record on GRONI just now and it returns with no results when I put in those details - it believes there were no Kearney children at all born between 1917-1920 which is strange and annoying. I don't know why this is. Do you know what I can do about this? I'm looking at a posible couple as Annie's parents but I can't be sure without her birth cert.

  • Katelyn:

Not sure where you are in Ireland but maybe you should write to the General Register Office https://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx

You mail the request and ask them to e-mail the copy back.

  • The GRONI online system only includes births over 100 years old, so you need to contact either GRONI or GRO Roscommon for a cert..
