  • Forgot...

Michael was married to my 3rd great aunt, Mary Murphy of Annaghmakeown, Co. Tyrone. They married in NYC.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!.

There are two Creggan townlands in Co. Roscommon near Ballinasloe. One was in Moore parish and the other in Drum parish. Likely Michael was from one of these two townlands. Kiltormer parish is two parishes south of Kilcloony parish where Ballinasloe is located so the 1834 record could be for the same person.

  • Thank you Roger!

I'm still a bit confused, I see that Ballinasloe is split between Galway & Rosscommon, and according to the obituary attached, Michael was from Co. Galway. I just did a lookup on Google Maps and found 'Creggaun, Co. Galway, and it's just north of Kiltormer where the baptism was performed. Maybe I just answered my own question? What do you think?

    Thanks,

    Allison

A good possibility. However, I don't see a Creggaun in Kiltormer parish.

  • Hi Roger!

Wondering if the second entry here, http://www.irishancestors.ie/search/townlands/index.php, could be the place in Michael Stanton's obituary. The parish 'Creagh' could have been misspelled or misunderstood in the obituary and written as 'Cregan'. What do you think?

    Thanks,

    Allison
