Hello: I'm looking for information on Martin "Maddy" Mannion. I'm told he was born and lived in Ballinderreen, Ireland and that he had a son named James Joseph Mannion who left for America. Any information would be helpful (records, gravesite, etc.). Thank you!

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Can you let us know the approximate year of birth for Martin and James Joseph Mannion. Do you have the maiden name for the wife of Martin Mannion? Thanks!

I checked the 1901 and 1911 censuses and there were no Martin Mannion around Ballinderreen. The only family was a widow with her son in the 1901 census in Mulroog West townland.Any connection?

  • Hi Roger: Thank you so much for your quick reply and assistance Roger! The only other information I have is that James baptism is recorded at Coleman Church in Ballinderreen about 1875, and that Maddy and others may be buried at Drumacoo Church. I was also told that Maddy and James may have lived for a time in Bally Clara (or Bally Claire, sorry I am not familiar with the town or spelling). Unfortunately that is all the information I have, which was gathered decades ago (not by me) from the locals at O'Connor's Pub. Do you have any advice for me on where to look for more information? :Mike

Ballyclery is a townland in the nearby civil parish of Killeenavarra. I located Msrtin in that townland in the 1901 and 1911 censuses with family. Looks like he died in 1922. You will have to sign-in to see the record.

  • Hi, Can you tell me if your Martin Mannion had a wife named Mary Neland?  My third great grand-father came to America in 1846 from Ballindereen.  His name was John Mannion and his parents were Martin Mannion and Mary Neland.  His father was a farmer .  I would guess he was born around 1790.  I would appreciate any info you might have on this Martin Mannion.
