I would love any help locating information on my Aran Islands ancestors. The information that I have is very limited, but maybe someone out there has come across the records or knows the family.
My 3rd Great Grandfather was Henry King (b. ~1832 Ireland, d. 1896 Roslindale, Massachusetts, USA). I don't know where in Ireland he was born, but because his first 3 children were born on the "Aran Islands" and registered the birth at Bungowla, I'm hoping that turns out to be his birthplace as well.
My 3rd Great Grandmother was Mary Conneely (b. ~1834 Ireland, d. 1874 Boston, Massachusetts, USA). Same story as above.
The first 3 of their children were listed with "Aran Islands, Galway, Ireland" as the birthplace (Joseph Patrick King b. 1861, Bridget King b. 28 Oct 1864, Bartholomew King b. 5 Mar 1867)
The next known child (Mary King) was born in Boston, Mass. 11 Oct 1869. So obviously, the family immigrated between 1867 and 1869.
Any information would be greatly appreciated...I'm simply at a solid wall on this family line.

Hello,
Bartholomew’s birth record identifies the home as the townland of Glengowla, which is on the mainland in Galway and not in the Aran Islands. Henry is identified in the record as a pilot.
Glengowla West is in the Electoral Division of Oughterard, in Civil Parish of Kilcummin, in the Barony of Moycullen, in the County of Galway. (from townlands.ie)

To add to Patricia's post, Bungoula/Bungowla is on Inis Mor, Aran Islands.
I attach the civil record of the birth of Bartholomew King in 1867. I have not found a civil or baptism record for Joseph Patrick or Bridget.
Apparently Henry was a boat pilot and would have operated between Aran and possibly Rossaveel in West Galway.
There is a record of a Henry King and Michael King with an address "Cregakeareen" Inis Mor which appears to be in the same area as Bungoula, in 1871. The surname "Conneely" also appears in that area.
A Michael King married a Barbara Dillane in 1876. Witnesses: Patrick Conneely and Margaret Dillane.
Hopefully this information will add to your quest for further family details.

McCoy

Griffith's Valuations early 1850's and printed in 1855 have a Bartholomew King in Inisheer - www.askaboutireland.ie - Free site.
No record found on Griffith's for a Henry King.
The surname "King" on the islands is not common. The following names are recorded on Griffith's: Bridget - Onaght, Stephen and Gregory - Kilmurvy, Micheal Carrowntemple, Elizabeth - Inishmaan. The name Patrick also appears. The Surname - "Millane" is also on the islands and the marriage for Michael King in previous Post may be "Millane"?

Hi, just in case there's any confusion, the townland I mentioned was Glengowla--where Bartholomew was born.
Bungoula is a townland in Inis Mor.
