My great-great-grandmother Margaret Whelan daughter of John Whelan (a Slater of Portumna) and his wife, Anne Kennedy, married Michael Manly the son of James Manly (a Storekeeper) and Cecelia Morris, in the Roman Catholic Chapel of Portumna on 12 January, 1865. This young couple came to Australia later that year.
I would be grateful to know -
- Would I be able to obtain a photo of the Chapel at that time?
- Are there any records available for the gravestones in St. Brigid's Churchyard?
- Is anyone else researching this family?

Pictures of Old Church Portumna can be accessed below.
My brother accessed these pictures for me. Our surname is Whelan from Killimor, the adjoining parish of Portumna.
I hope this is of some help to you,
Regards,
Iomar Whelan
