I'll be coming over to Ireland in a week, and will be visiting in the Curraghmore / Greenfields area, outside Headford, Co. Galway.  Is it possible to find info from church or civil records in the area that might document my great grandparents births or their wedding/parents?  I've hit a stone wall and can't get past them to go further back in time.  The names are Patrick Walsh (I know, not TOO common!) and Mary Reddington, born c. 1948 and 1850 respectively.  But I've no records to document those dates, just "handed down" family lore.  Years ago, I emailed St. Mary's Church in Claran but never heard anything in reply.

  • Jeanne:

Civil registration of births started in 1864. The baptismal records for Headford RC church start in 1880. If Mary and Patrick were baptized in that church then there would be no baptismal record or civil birth record available. Just to make certain, I did search the subscription site Roots Ireland for Mary Redington baptismal records with father Martin and there were none in Co.Galway around 1850.
