I'm seeking to establish the specific connection between my Long family and an Enright family who were purportedly cousins of  John Long of Dromartin. I've traced or think I've traced the property of Ellen Long, my 3rd great grandmother Ellen Long through her son, John Long( brother of my great great grandmother Hanoria(Honora) to John's son also John and finally to Edward Enright.....on the younger John Long's death cert, the informant is listed as a cousin, name of Edward/Edmond Enright.....I'm trying to figure out who the connection is between Edward Enright and John Long; they are listed as cousins but I'd like to know the "how"...also, I woner if there are still Enright family members in the area of Dromartin ?

  • Dear Kerry

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and apologies for the delay in getting back to you. You can use irishgenealogy.ie (a free site) to do all of your research on Kerry parish records. You may find that your search will be successful if you concentrate on siblings and their children; perhaps there will be sponsors or witnesses named on records that will give you a hint and help you establish the relationship in a more concrete way.

  • Thanks for your reply, Clare....I'm aware of most of the resources necessary to do the research but I'm beyond that at this point....I'm hopeful that someone with local knowledge of Dromartin, Causeway, Ballyduff may be aware of more localized resources or MAY even know of the families which I'm asking about...

  • Sorry, but this area is quite away from me and I have only been through the area on visits. I am not familkiar with families there. Contacts in Ballybunion or Listowel may have better info(if we have anyone). Drommartin is in the Rattoo, Kerry Civil parish. Have you looked at:

  • Hi Kerry

We don't actually have a volunteer in Dromartin and our other Kerry volunteers are quite far off as Jim says. As you know we are dependent on our volunteers for our work to continue but there are some patches of the country where there is no Ireland XO representation just yet.

Kerry local studies might be able to provide further information: http://www.kerrylibrary.ie/

Outside of that you may have to think about a professional researcher from Timeline Genealogy, Eneclann or the APGI or use Ancestry/Roots Ireland to trace the Enright/Long connection to figure out how the cousin relationship is recorded

  • Hello Joan,

Just thought that I'd ask but expecting that there's been no "joy" regarding my original question...

In any event, I appreciate the effort....

    Happy New Year
