    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The RC records for Castleconnell do not begin until 1850  http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0758 so no record for Michael would be available. I did check the 1850 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Stradbally civil parish (which includes Castleconnell) and there is not Michael Gallagher but there are  a Patrick and Peter Gallaher in Carrowkeel townland so possibly that is hwere your Michael came from. http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/limerick/stradbally.htm

The RC records for Shanagolden start in 1824  http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0866 I checked on Roots Ireland for Johanna O'Brien or any siblings in Shanagolden RC records but did not find any records. Here is the 1850 Griffiths for Shanagolden parish and there are a number of Patrick O'Brien records. http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/limerick/shanagolden.htm

You may want to consider autosomal DNA testing to see if you match someone who has more information on your Gallagher or O'Brien lines.

  • Thanks Rodger for your input . These Gallagher used tractional family names Michael , James , john  Mary ann . Though the generations also gt grandfather used Henry as his middle name . Johanna obrien has got Clare on her records but I take shanagolden and Clare are close to each other . Did do a family DNA a few years ago . Could not match any of these name though in Ireland . Is there shipping record in limerick departure  . There is other info on the passenger list for ship  Adam lodge . But very hard to read not sure if Michael Gallagher and Johanna obrien knew each other before or they they meet on the Adam lodge , thanks Paul

No 1840 ship records in Ireland that I'm aware of. Likely they left from Co. Cork

  • Hi Rodger   Yes they left from cork , looking at the convict records  country limerick . Was shock to see the amount of people sent to  Tasmania . The number of Gallagher's 1840 - 1850 there is a few that would fit with the family name James  , john , Mary, Michael not the way a person want to find relations but very possible . Most convicts minor crimes stealing to eat  sad .  Thanks Paul

It was very sad. There are two songs that describe the situation. My favorite is the Fields of Athenry

The other is the Black Velvet Band  https://www.google.com/?ion=1&espv=2#q=black+velvet+band
