I am interested in a Rev Robert Peacock and his family. He was ordained as a priest of the Church of Ireland in 1763. It appears he was born about 1740. He had a sister, Ann, who married a John Unthank in 1771. The only indication of where he came from is a note in a newspaper report that he was from Limerick.

  • Hi David

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and apologies for the delay in getting back to you.

There is 1 potential baptisms on rootsireland.ie

Robert baptsied in Rathkeale parish, Limerick on 13-Nov-1745 (father Henry, mother Mary). I cannot find a baptism for Ann for that period. Have you considered contacting the Representative Church Body to see if they can provide some further info on John?

  • There is a tradition that when a marriage takes place  then a new family  name , be it forename or surname, is passed on  to the next generations.

In fact, Robert occurred fairly often in my  (Maam Cross, Galway)  family line , as well as in outliers.

Mind, books are  written about  fashions and the  motivation of naming of offspring !

  • I am a volunteer Receptionist/Guide at St Mary's Cathedral in Limerick and I know the custodian of the C of I records there.  The Cathedral holds ther records for the diocese of Limerick.  If you would like her to perform a search of the records for you please email cathedral@limerick.anglican.org.   This service is not free so expect a modest charge for this service.
