I'm hoping to find more information on my Great Grandfather John Dwyer (circa1854)He was a shopkeeper and Publican in Pallasgreen and I think his older brother Jeremiah (ran the post office next door.
John married my Great Grandmother Bridget Carey (circa1869) in 1899 and went on to have 7 children but according to th 1911 census only 5 were living. The oldest was my Grandmother Julia Angela which is a puzzle because Bridget's mother was Mary or Maria Hanley. Is it possible Julia was the name of a previous wife ? John married Bridget (17 yrs his junior)when he was approx 45 either that or Julia was his Mother.
Jeremiah coincidentally was married late 40s and 17 years Older than his wife Mary O'Brien again I presume he was married before.
Both John and Jeremiah named theirs oldest sons Michael which leads me me to believe theirs Father would have been Michael Dwyer. My Grandmother married Ned O'Dwyer (Garranmore) his parents were John O'Dwyer (circa 1842) and Anne English (circa1849) I have DNA matches to O'Brien,Real,Ryan,McGrath which I'm trying to figure out , my O'Brien ancestors seem to go back to Morgan O'Brien, Ryan's to Cornelius Ryan,Reals to Partrick Real and McGraths toThomas McGrath I just can't work out wether which Granparent but I'm getting close thanks to fellow ancestors
Any information that would help me work thisout would be much appreciated.

Thank you so much Patricia.
you could well be right here. The sponsor names are all familiar as I keep getting hints on my ancestry page to Matt Dwyer and Julia Ryan, I also think Denis Dwyer was a brother also.
I will add them to my tree to see if I get any DNA matches from ancestry or GEDmatch and let you know the outcome.

Hi Patricia. I'm not sure about Irish baptism tradition in them days, Jerry Dwyer's sponsors Matt Dwyer and Julia Ryan would have been old enough to be his Grandparents, have you heard of that happening? I always thought sponsors would be siblings or cousins. It wasn't long after the great famine so possibly Matt and Julia were in the best position to support the children.

Yes, grandparents sometimes served as godparents.

Hello John. My husband's family were from Pallasgreen. Interested in your O'Briens and Reals in particular. i don't see you come up as a match with him on Ancestry. Is that where you did your DNA test?

Hi Mary. My DNA test was through ancestry, it's likely that we could match at lower than 8cM which is the threshold for ancestry. I have uploaded to GEDmmatch which can go as low as 4cM. My kit number is RE3174032. I know I have links to a Patrick Real (Pallas)and Morgan Obrien(Moanmore) but I'm still trying to establish exactly how. Currently I have a strong link to Cornelius Ryan (Tipp)1743 his son Cornelius seems to be my direct line but his Daughter Anne Ryan (1777)who's husband was Morgan Obrien's son William, I have several current DNA matches at approx 20cM to them. There are some good posts on XO about the Reals and some very Knowledgeable contributors. I'm sorry it's taken so long to reply I only noticed your reply this morning. I think my connections to the Obrien's. I have 2 Great grandfather's from Pallas. This John Dwyer lived in Pallas Town and my other John Odwyer lived across town. I think my links come through his wife Anne English (1849) Her father was Edmund English(Cross) and Mother was Judy Ryan which has caused my family confusion as we always believed his mother to be Judy Obrien due to a cashel and Emily list of baptisms backed up with roots Ireland search result but when you click on the roots Ireland link to the original document it's clearly Judy Ryan as is the marriage to Edmund and siblings although there is a William English born to Judy Ryan and Edmund English (1854) same area and sponsors ? Need to dash but happy to help if I can . John
