Good people of Ratoath, Meath. I'm trying to find out more about my 2nd Great Grandfather, John O'Brien born in 1835 in Ratoath, Meath.

His parents were James O'Brien and Catherine Ford.

He and his wife Mary Herity emigrated to Scotland sometime before 1870 and they lived most of the rest of their life in Glasgow.

I have no information about where Mary Herity was born. All the records just say Ireland, 1846.

Amazingly, I have done my DNA analysis and I have 31% Irish DNA even though I only have one Irish relative through this line; Mary O'Brien my Great Grandmother.

Any information would be much appreciated.

    Hello Fleurish,

I did a look-up on the records for you and came across the enclosed.  Did they have a family of 5.  Only came across 1 marriage for that time period and the Brides name is down as Gagerty - it could me a miss-print of the name, however, Hegarty would be a more popular of the surname now. Also here marriages [most of the time] take place in the Brides parish, which shows as Navan in the County of Meath.  Hope this information is useful to you.

    Good luck with your research.
