Hello

my great, great, great, great grandparents were Cormick Kilgannon and Ellen Ormsby. The spelling varies greatly for both their names, with Gilgannon, Kilgallon being used as surnames by some of their children and Ellen's surname was also spelled as 'O'Armsley'. It is believed that Cormick was born about 1775 or so, and Ellen probably between 1775 and 1785. Family sources indicate that they married about 1802. These same family sources also say that there were at least seven children born who survived to adulthood.

I would love any additional information, suggestions or advice regarding this couple. I do have information regarding various descendants of Cormick and Ellen and would be glad to share and compare. I have included brief summaries of the children born to this couple.

The children of Cormick and Ellen are presumed to be:

1. Michael Kilgannon (1802? - 1860), married to Bridget ?, father to Sabina, Thomas, Michael and Patrick (although there may be other children as well). Immigrated to Luzerne County, Penn., USA. Michael is 'presumed' to be a child of Cormick and Ellen but has not been 100% verified.

2. Thomas Kilgannon (1804 - ?), married to Mary ?, father to John, Catherine, Bridget Mary, Eleanor / Ellen, and William and possibly other children. Immigrated to Luzerne County, Penn., USA. Thomas is 'presumed' to be a child of Cormick and Ellen but has not been 100% verified.

3. Patrick Kilgannon (1809 - ?), married in 1835 at Templeboy to Elizabeth 'Betty' Linney, father to John, Catherine, Michael and Mary A. (three of the children were baptised at Kilglass). Immigrated to Durham, England where he may have passed away, The rest of the family immigrated to Lackawanna County, Penn., USA. Patrick is 'presumed' to be a child of Cormick and Ellen but has not been 100% verified.

4. Cormack Kilgannon (1811? - 1898), married in 1834 at Templeboy to Mary Cuffe (Patrick Kilgannon was a witness), father to John, Ann, James and Mary, Immigrated to Scotland. Cormack is a confirmed son of Cormack and Ellen Kilgannon, as they are named on his marriage on his death registration.

5. John Kilgannon (1812 - 1890), married to Bridget Kelly, father to Edward, Sara, Charles, Catherine Theresa, Bridget and possibly two other sons. Immigrated to Lackawanna County, Penn., USA. John is a confirmed son of Cormack and Ellen Kilgannon, as family 'sources' have indiciated so. In addition, he named a son Charles, possibly after Cormick.

6. James Kilgannon (1812 - ?), married Elizabeth ?, father to John, James, Timothy and Patrick (and possibly others). Immigrated to Luzerne County, Penn., USA where the family used the surname of Kilgallon. John is a confirmed son of Cormack and Ellen Kilgannon, as family 'sources' have indiciated so. A niece (daughter of Cormack Kilgannon and Mary Cuffe) immigrated to Penn., upon the advice of her uncle James and Aunt Kathy.

7. Katherine Kilgannon (1813 - 1880), married John Loftus, mother of Henry Francis, Bernard and Joanna Loftus (as well as other possible children). Immigrated to Lackawanna County, Penn., USA. A niece (daughter of Cormack Kilgannon and Mary Cuffe) immigrated to Penn., upon the advice of her uncle James and Aunt Kathy.

I have also posted an entry about child #4, Cormack Kilgannon, on the Templeboy board, as that is where he married.

Thanks

Thelma

  • My great, great, great grandmother was a Mary Ormsby no info on her birth date but her husband Robert Meredith was born in 1785 married Mary in 1802 and he died in 1870.  I presume Mary to be about the same ages and could be a sister to Ellen Ormsby?
