Hello!
My ancestor Michael Harding (born approximately 1828; parents listed as James Harding and Mary Power on his death record) lived in Boola Townland of Kilsheelan Parish, County Waterford side and attended church across the river in County Tipperary side of the parish. Michael and wife Ellen Power Harding (born approximately 1828 to James Power and Catherine Wall) had ten children, most all of whom can be found in the Gambonsfield and Kilcash baptism registries. The whole family, except Michael junior who passed away in 1870 at age 13, ultimately left and immigrated to Worcester, Massachusetts, USA. Michael died in 1891 and Ellen in 1896, both in Worcester.
I'm looking to broaden my understanding of the family back in Ireland: birth and marriage details for Michael and Ellen, burial info for Michael junior and really any information on Michael and Ellen's parents or siblings. I am also interested in connecting with any distant family that may still live in the area :)
Thanks so much,
Lindsay

See Griffiths Valuation for Michael Harding in Kilsheelan. He had a house and 37 acres of land.

Also in the townland were James Power and John Power.

Hi Lindsay,
I thought I'd also take a look to see if I could find more of your family. I struck out. Except for Thomas Power's baptism in Waterford city they did not show up at all. I did get the impression that your dates might be off by a bit, but still there should have been some trace of them. My guess is that they are in some parish record that has not been completely transcribed or that has been lost. I did find Michael Hardings death registered in Clonmel. They should soon be putting up the image of his death certificate. They have just reached the 1870s in the last month or so so it is worth keeping an eye on that..
It is frustrating to come up a blank. Maybe the next thing is to do more research to see if you can nail down the dates more firmly. I sent you the tithe applotments for Kilsheelan. Lots of Powers but no Hardings. Maybe his wife was from here and Harding moved in from somewhere else.
Sorry not to be of more help.

Hi Patricia and Geraldine, thank you both so much for your replies and investigation!
Patricia, while I was already aware of the Griffiths Valuation reference, the Thomas Power record is an interesting new lead! I did recently find a death record for Catherine Power, assuming it to be Ellen's mother, which would give her a birth year around 1801. But, that is just an assumption and there are enough family names/locations to further investigate - thank you for that!
Geraldine, thank you for your research efforts! I have no doubt the dates may be off - they are based off of death registries an ocean away and and oh so prone to error! I've sort of suspected the Harding branch came down from Tipperary or beyond, but don't have any hard evidence to support this yet. Thank you also for the lead on the 1870 death. I had previously found that record and splurged the 4€ for a copy; it belongs to the 13 year old son who died of rheumatic fever complications. Would there be any way to find out where he might be buried?
