I am searching for information on the family of my ancestor Patrick Daley. I have found information that he was born in Wexford in 1815, father's name was possibly also Patrick. He was convicted of assault and sent to the Australian Penal Colony at New South Wales in 1835, later to be given a Certificate of Freedom in 1842. He married Mary Anne Coleman of New South Wales. Any information regarding his parents or other family would be greatly appreciated, as well as any more specific information about where he lived, and any info regarding the conviction.

Thank you,

Jennifer Daley Echevarria

Patrick's great, great, great, great grandaughter :-)

  • Jennifer:

There are very few RC parishes for Co. Wexford online at Roots Ireland.I checked for baptismal records from 1810-1820 in Co. Wexford for a Patrick Daley with a father named Patrick and got no record.

Later this summer the National Library of Ireland plans to place all RC parish registers online for free searching. Unfortunately, you would have to search parish by parish where parishes have records back to 1815. Tedious work but that may be your only alternative.

  • Mr. McDonnell,

Thank you so much for your help, I will keep an eye on the National Library for when they release the records.

  • Hi Jennifer, I have just read your post. I am a great-great grand daughter of a Richard or John Daley from County Wexford (as stated on his marriage certificate). He married my great-great grandmother Mary Ann Mulrooney on the Ballarat goldfields in 1857. His parents were Martin Daley and Bridget Power. Jennifer have you taken the AncestryDNA test? I have. It would be interesting to see if we come up as a match  kind regards, Therese Moloney
